If you run a computer or you are doing any computer course then you should be aware of the computer driver or device driver. on computer you works on printer or scanner etc. which is not possible without a computer driver.
computer driver is a kind of software that interacts with computer hardware and computer software so that they can work properly. that is why the driver is the main link between computer hardware and software. however, when you install any operating system in your computer, then some necessary drivers such as audio drivers, network drivers, bluetooth driver, WiFi driver etc. installed along with your operating system. if any of your driver is missing from your device then dont worry, you can install them separately also.
Types of device driver
There are many types of device driver available for different hardware, here i am going to tell you about some very important driver which is responsible for some basic function of computer.
- Hardware driver:- Hardware driver is a program which is designed in sauch a way that it allow the computer hardware pieces like expansion slots to work in a computer.
- BIOS:- Its full name is basic input output system. This is designed in such a way that it helps to boot a computer when we ON the computer, this is a very basic and very important driver because without this driver, you cannot turn ON your computer.
- Motherboard driver:- This type of software contains the program which allows USB ports, broadband ports etc to work in a computer.
Why computer driver is so important?
As i told you above that computer driver is a software that interacts between your computer software and computer hardware so that they can work properly. so if any of you computer's driver is missing from your computer then you cant do such work in your computer like
- if you don't have audio driver then you can't listen audio.
- if you don't have printer driver then you can't take print out from your computer.
- if you don't have USB driver then you can't connect pendrive with your computer.
- if you don't have network driver then you can't access the internet.
- if you dont have BIOS driver then you can't connect mouse or keyboard with your computer.
How does driver work?
The main work of device driver is that it is a translator between operating system and device. operating system wants to communicate with device because to send data or to recieve data. but the main problem is operating system is software and device is hardware, so both understand different language, that why there is a need of translator which is device driver. first the hardware explains the needs to device driver and when device driver understands it, then it further explains to operating system.
How to check driver in computer?
If you want to see that which driver is installed in your computer, you can check it by going to Device Manager. but if you don't know its shortcut key but you want to check device driver manually, then you have to follow some steps given below:-
- first of all press Window Button and R key together with your keyboard.
- after that a search box will open.
- by entering devmgmt.msc you will go straight to device driver manager.
- here you can check the status of the driver .
