What is OTP?- if you have ever made online payments or if you have created social media accounts like facebook, whatsapp, instagram etc., Then after filling up all the personal details, you got a text massage on your mobile in which there is a code of 4 or 6 digits number,

Have you ever think that what is that code and what is the purpose of that code, if no then don't worry , read the post till the end because today we are going to talk about the same code as we called them OTP.

What is OTP?


OTP

OTP stands for One Time Password, it is a code of five or six digits which can be used only ones and it is valid for very short period only and after that it will expire, it is not possible to use it again. It is a form of security code which is used to provide you more enhance protection than the normal password. When we use our debit card to do online transaction, you may have noticed that after filling all the personal information , you got a text message from your bank in which there is a set of four or six digits code. This set of code is called as OTP (One Type Password)

Why is OTP used?


OTP is very different from a normal password which makes your account more secure whether it is your bank account or your social media account.
Products like Google, Paytm and internet banking often use the OTP to ensure the authenticity of the user and prevent identity theft. Adopting the use of sending OTP to users to login in specific website or social media account improves security, who otherwise could be vulnerable to phishing and keyboard logging activities . OTP provides an additional layer of security to protect the digital identity of the end users.
Whenever you all create account on  many different website, most of you people often have the same password for all websites. In such a situation, if your single password will hacked, then they can misuse it. In this case OTP is used to make your account even more secure. If any one tries to login in your account, then the OTP will come on your registered mobile number so that you can be alert.

How many types of OTP are there?


There are three types of OTP:-

  • Voice Call OTP :- this type OTP is given to you by calling on your registered mobile number.
  • Email OTP :- this type of OTP is sent on your registered email id.
  • SMS OTP :- this type of OTP is given to by sms on your registered mobile number. SMS OTP is most commonly used OTP.
